Acorn Manor – A Care Home for people with learning difficulties
Acorn Manor is the second care home opened by Ark Care Homes Ltd, welcoming residents since 2006. It is situated on the outskirts of the historic port town of Bideford, just a couple of miles from the seaside villages of Westward Ho! and Instow and approximately 10 miles from Barnstaple, North Devon’s main town.
Care you can Trust
Acorn Manor is a large, detached Georgian property dating back some 400 years and stands in its own extensive grounds with 2 acres of woodland, gardens and a lake.
It is located on the main bus route but is only a 10-minute walk into Bideford with its wide variety of high street and independent shops, bars and restaurants. Acorn Manor enjoys an exceptionally quiet and secluded location, yet with the benefits of being within easy reach of local amenities.
Acorn Manor is a 7-bedded Residential Care Home for adults with autism, learning disabilities and challenging behaviour presenting with complex care needs. There are 5 large and spacious bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities, as well as 2 flats boasting their own bathroom, living area and bedroom. In the main house there are two comfortable, spacious living rooms, a dining room and a large kitchen where tasty and nutritious homemade meals are expertly prepared. Within the extensive grounds, Acorn Manor residents can enjoy the sensory garden, the orchard and gain their green fingers on the vegetable plot.
Residents are encouraged to live a full, busy life and are encouraged to go out every day; some for a long walk, whilst others will go to the beach, swimming, horse-riding, shopping – whatever they most enjoy. Acorn Manor residents are often out in the evenings too, and particularly like attending the cinema and local theatres. Using public transport is an important life skill, and it is greatly encouraged here, although there are also company vehicles available and parking space for those with their own Motability vehicles.
Ark Care Homes Ltd takes enormous pride in ensuring that all staff working in this sector of care are highly experienced and trained in the specialities of autism, learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge, alongside the statutory and mandatory training required.
Acorn Manor is managed by Tanya Gillett, who has over 20 years of experience in working with this client group. Tanya is supported by a team of highly professional, motivated staff who take great pride in providing high-quality 24-hour care that supports the individual in developing to their full potential and gaining independence.
