Acorn House – Learning Disability Care Home in North Devon
Acorn House was the very first care home acquired by Ark Care Homes Ltd, opening its door to residents in 2003. It is situated in the pretty seaside village of Westward Ho!, a couple of miles from the port town of Bideford and approximately 10 miles from the market town of Barnstaple. The local area boasts a wealth of the best North Devon has to offer, including the stunning beaches, dramatic coastlines, beautiful woodlands, rolling countryside and riverside walks, especially along the famous Tarka Trail.
Care you can Trust
Acorn House is a Victorian terraced house with a small, private garden and is registered as a Care Home for people with autism, learning difficulties and behaviours that challenge. The homely, welcoming feel of Acorn House extends throughout the two comfortable, spacious living areas and the beautifully proportioned kitchen-diner, where all our delicious meals are freshly home-cooked and full of nutrition. All 4 bedrooms are large, light and airy and have private en-suite facilities. Residents are actively encouraged to bring their own possessions to personalise their room as they wish.
Although Acorn House enjoys a peaceful location away from busy roads, it is only a 5-minute walk into Westward Ho! with its variety of shops, bars, restaurants and amusements and its beautiful Blue Flag beach. Residents are encouraged to access all of the local facilities – not just those of Westward Ho! but also local swimming pools, cinemas and theatres in Barnstaple and the surrounding area. Residents are known to greatly enjoy attending a variety of concerts and pantomimes and, in the warmer weather, can spend time enjoying their meals ‘al fresco’ in the garden
Acorn House is managed by Ruth Wardhaugh, who has over 30 years of experience of working within this client group.
